Summary of the presentation:

Donna’s presentation briefly covers her story and a video of The Donna Clervi Foundation’s Rock Steady Boxing program. Donna can then demonstrate a few balance exercises, which are beneficial for all of us, and a large movement demonstration. All of this depends upon the time allowed. Donna can easily do this in 30 minutes with time for questions/discussion.
When Donna Clervi was 39 years old, she had a health scare, and at the time, a very wise doctor’s advice to her was, “starting tomorrow, Donna, you MUST Exercise! Exercise will heal your brain.” As a young mother of teenage twins, Donna heeded his advice and started my exercise and health advocate journey.
A few years ago, her Boxing and weight training coach introduced her to an international organization called Rock Steady Boxing, an exercise program specifically for People with Parkinson’s. Donna was immediately interested and knew she wanted to participate in this program. Soon after, the coach and Donna became business partners purchasing an affiliate for Rock Steady Boxing.
As Donna worked with the “fighters,” observed them, and became acquainted with them and their families, Donna saw so many needs within this community. Thus, the reason for developing a nonprofit organization. The mission of The Donna Clervi Foundation is to create a safe space where fighters and their families can find the resources and support necessary to live healthier and happier lives. The Donna Clervi Foundation was established to create and fund a holistic Parkinson’s Development Center in Orange County, California, designed specifically for people with Parkinson’s Disease, their families, and their support systems. The Foundation is committed to raising awareness of and supporting those living with the daily challenges of Parkinson’s by bringing together and nurturing effective therapies, exercise modalities, education, and social support to improve the overall quality of life for those battling this debilitating Disease. The Foundation also provides financial support to individuals who cannot afford the total cost of exercise programs that are proven to aid in combating the effects of Parkinson’s.
Donna is a 30+ year veteran of the healthcare industry who dedicated her career to creating quality-of-life initiatives for the workplace, healthcare systems, and everyday people. Throughout my career, Donna worked with architects, interior designers, and contractors planning, building, and furnishing acute care facilities, cancer centers, urgent care centers, medical office buildings, and off-site pharmacies for major healthcare groups. Donna’s long-standing clients were Kaiser Permanente, Hoag Hospital, MemorialCare, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Scripps, Stanford Medical, the VA Medical Centers, and San Francisco General, to name a few.
Donna now uses that experience to support, encourage and train people struggling with Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s Disease is a terrible, debilitating disease with no cure, and the best way to minimize the effects of the illness is to keep fighting. Rock Steady Boxing is a proven program that teaches our boxers to fight back through forced intense exercise gaining strength, mobility, balance, focus, and much more.
