Summary of the presentation:

Helping the poor in Mexico by providing housing.

“To build a house in one day – that’s all a volunteer can dream of.”

John Perry from the Rotary Club of Yorba Linda Sunrise told us about Project Corazón, which has kept his Club busy with International, Peace and Vocational work.

“We start out at 4:30 am while it’s dark, and drive south for three and a half hours, and by then we’re in the Third World.”

That’s John and buddy, Don Fox, along with other Yorba Linda Rotarians on the way to put up a house in a village in Baja, California.

When they get there, they find materials ready: siding, beams, framing materials. We saw pictures of them hammering boards into place, real hammers, real nails, and then realized there were no electric tools being used. Reason? No electricity in this Third World village.

They are working to ensure children and their families have a safe, secure home to live in. They empower communities to build, repair and maintain their homes through training and job skill development.

Operation Corazón completes over 40 house builds a year and does 6,000 community projects. “Our aim,” said John, “is to help people escape the cycle of poverty.”
